The Brief:

The client and main contractor required BGES to decommission 80 guestrooms in 2 separate phases. BGES would be responsible for stripping each guestroom back to its shell before the main contractor would begin the renovation works. The client was keen to ensure that the redundant resources were kept in circulation and emphasised their desire to prioritise reuse over recycling/landfill to minimise the carbon footprint during the renovation.

The Outcome:

80 guestrooms split into 2 phases were completed during a 3 day decommissioning window at the start of each phase to allow maximum time for the remodelling/renovation schedule. BGES would work to a program of remove to reuse, hauling the FF+E from Oxford up to HQ in Edinburgh for refurbishment and reuse.

CSR & Sustainability

During asset decommission works, BGES adhere to circular strategies for resource reuse created and managed by sustainability partners - Recreate Scotland. The Holiday Inn Oxford is a Recreate Certified organisation having made the commitment to reduce their carbon footprint during periods of resource decommission/renovation.

Zero skips were utilised for loose FF+E during the decommission program and an impressive reuse rate of 86% was achieved for all redundant FF+E. Read more about their sustainability credentials here.
